Operational & Leadership Assessment
It is important that top management be structured appropriately
to function both as leaders and change agents in the ever-changing markets
of health care.

Taking
Team Building to the Top |
|
A new structure must integrate effectively with the community, its physicians, and the
organization's values and mission.
In order to function effectively, the leadership team may require new skills, abilities,
and attitudes. Top management must be effective at providing strategic direction, interpersonal
support, coaching, and role modeling.
Noyes & Associates' approach is typically in two phases:
Phase One:
An assessment of the organization and its leadership team.
Phase Two:
A series of retreats to identify required changes and to develop approaches
that can be implemented immediately.
Phase One
The goals of the Phase One Assessment are to determine:
- Key members' understanding and acceptance of the vision and strategies of the organization.
- The effectiveness of the current organization and structure (strengths and weaknesses and
how to improve).
- The current "team" effectiveness.
- The magnitude of needed changes.
- The effectiveness of the relationship of the top administrative team with their respective
teams, physicians, and other stakeholders.
- The organization's readiness for change.
The assessment is conducted by a senior team of consultants. One-on-one interviews,
review of hospital documents, market-trend information, and organization questionnaires are used.
Phase Two
Phase Two uses Organization Structure and Leadership Development retreats. The
number, topics, length, and participants vary in each organization.
Examples of retreats focuses are:

- Strategic Vision dialogue surrounding the formation of management philosophy.
- Organization and management structure: management team chartering and individual accountabilities.
